When people think of Crete, they tend to think about beautiful beaches where to lie down, small picturesque villages or impressive remains. What they don’t realise is that they can add another typical Crete attraction: windsurfing spots! The island has several places where you can enjoy some awesome windsurfing moments. The most famous windsurfing spot is Palekastro in the Eastern part of Crete. However, there are also some others spots we will present you in this article. After reading this you will love to spend the summer in Crete and use your stay at our luxury hotel in Rethymnon to give it a try. You won’t forget!

Palekastro – Kouremenos beach, the Cretan kingdom of windsurfing
Palekastro is an internationally renamed and known spot for great wind surfing. Almost daily strong winds (Force 7 wind is not exceptional there!), with shops and trainers available near the beach, and an amazing mix of cosmopolitan atmosphere and authenticity as only Crete can offer!

Even as a beginner you may give it a try there under the skilful guidance of a teacher that will guide you through an amazing first day of windsurfing. Anyhow, average to advanced wind surfers will be completely fulfilled there and won’t lack anything… Everything they need is available at the numerous renting shops! From sails of various sizes to various boards, they will have what you are looking for!

Your windsurfer heart must be aching to jump on your windsurf right now while the power of the wind drags you through the salty waters, but wait until you have been to the Kouremenos beach in Palekastro! Windsurfing kingdom of Europe!

The easier playgrounds: Falassarna, Elounda and Elafonissi beach
Crete has also other nice spots available for windsurfing even though they will represent less of a challenge for experienced windsurfers. Elafonissi and Falassarna both host windsurfing clubs that will provide you with a good choice of material that will make most of the windsurfers able to have a great day! These two spots are perfect for average windsurfers looking for a good time!

On the other hand, beginners also have a great spot: Elounda. The area has a skilled windsurfing club that will be very pleased to teach anyone who is curious about this amazing sport. Ideal for beginners, it will also be enjoyed by average windsurfers depending on the variable winds! You never tried windsurfing before? Surprise yourself and give it a try in the amazing environment of Elounda!

Papadiokambos, the adventurer’s spot
Are you an experienced windsurfer who doesn’t know where to surf? Crete has a major surfing spot for you: Papadiokambos in Faneromeni. The challenge lies both in the access to the sea and the challenge you often get from the Greek Gods of wind and sea. You will first have to get away from the beautiful but rocky coast of Papadiokambos. Then you will be challenged by a strong wind; only very skilled surfers will be able to keep their balance! This beautiful spot is not advised for beginners due to the difficult starting area. However, average and advanced windsurfers will surely find their way out and have lots of fun!
